A Good Suit of Clothes
“Deagh Dhèis Aodaich” or “A Good Suit of Clothes” by Fiona J Mackenzie, is the first ever album of Scottish Gaelic Emigrant Songs and is released on the Greentrax label, published by MacDug Music, July 2009. The 12 songs on the album tell the stories of the Scottish emigrants and their troubles and successes as they left their homeland in the years after the Highland Clearances in the 18th,19th and 20th Centuries. The collection includes both traditional songs, dating from the mid 1700’s through to songs written in the 21st Century and they are performed in traditional and contemporary fashion. The album features some of Scotland’s finest musicians from traditional, contemporary and classical genres including Mr McFall’s Chamber (string quartet), Anna Massie, Cathy Ann MacPhee, Fraser Fifield, Mary Ann Kennedy, John Goldie, Ed McFarlane, Simone Welsh and Ian Muir.
This album is an important piece of musical and historical work, produced to celebrate the Scottish Emigrants in 2009, Year of Homecoming.
